Meet Abi

17 years in accounts — practice, industry, and a lot in between.

Books In Order isn't a franchise or a remote firm putting your work through a processing centre. It's one person, doing the work, with 17 years of experience that covers both sides of the ledger.

Abi Mullins, founder of Books In Order

Background

Practice, industry, and everything it taught me.

I started in an accountancy practice in Hull, worked through my AAT and ACCA, and then spent years in food manufacturing in management and financial accounting roles — the kind of in-house job where you're expected to know the numbers properly, not just file them.

That experience on both sides — practice and industry — shapes how I work with clients. The books aren't kept just to satisfy HMRC. They're structured so your accountant has something useful to work with, and so you can actually understand what's going on in your own business.

Books In Order came from wanting to give small business owners the same clear picture of their finances that I was building inside larger companies. Without the corporate overhead, and without making it more complicated than it needs to be.

"I want to be the person you call in March, not just in January."

AAT Licensed Accountant

AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is the professional body for accounting technicians in the UK. An AAT Licensed Accountant can provide a range of accountancy services to individuals and small businesses — including bookkeeping, VAT returns, management accounts, and Self Assessment.

One person, one point of contact

You won't be passed between different members of a team. When you send an email or pick up the phone, you speak to the person who's actually working on your books. That makes it easier to ask questions and quicker to resolve anything that comes up.

Hull-based, not Hull-only

Most clients are in Hull and East Yorkshire, but cloud accounting means location doesn't have to matter. Work is done via Xero, with communication by Zoom, phone, WhatsApp, or email — whatever suits the client.

Work together

A first call is 20 minutes. No prep, no commitment.

We talk about your business, what you need, and whether it's a good fit. That's it.
